Support Teams

 

The League could not function without the volunteers who provide services that support our operations and services. We encourage you to learn about and consider these important volunteer activities. League volunteers receive all needed training and support. The League welcomes your participation no matter how much time you have to give.

Communications

The Communications team assures that the League effectively communicates trustworthy information to inform members, support the work of League committees, and inform the public.

Communications functions include: 

  • Managing the League’s social media sites to reach and engage a diverse audience

  • Preparing media releases and managing all contacts with the media

  • Assisting committees to develop print materials; providing final review and approval; overseeing printing and distribution

  • Reviewing and approving community presentations by League programs

  • Producing and distributing the League’s monthly newsletter 

  • Managing and approving other internal communications to members

Judy Wood and Office Volunteers

Office Support

The League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson operates an office that serves as the communication center for all League activities. Desk Volunteers are the face of the League to anyone calling or visiting the local office. The office is staffed Monday through Friday, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except federal holidays, a December holiday break, and a three-month summer break. Regularly scheduled desk volunteers work two hours every other week. Backup volunteers are readily available in case of scheduling conflicts. Training and support is provided, and new volunteers shadow office experienced volunteers until they feel ready to work on their own. 

Desk volunteer tasks include:  
  • Greeting all who come to the office and providing the information requeste
  • Answering the phone 

  • Responding to emails

  • Handling mail 

  • Sending out new member packets

  • Recording new and renewal memberships

  • Processing event reservations 

  • Special tasks as needed

Technology and Equipment Support

Technology and Equipment Support volunteers assist League leaders and members with the use of computers and other equipment. 

 

Technology functions include: 

  • Maintaining an engaging, informative website that is a go-to resource for League members and the public

  • Serving as the League’s “help desk,” assisting members to use computer software, applications, devices and accessories  

  • Planning and conducting training sessions with members on the use of equipment 

  • Assisting with the recording of League events 

  • Maintaining logs of LWVGT equipment (computers, projectors, cameras and related accessories) owned by the League and checked out by members for official use

  • Coordinating equipment maintenance and purchase when necessary

Development / Fundraising 

The annual Issues & Eggs breakfast program is our primary fundraiser, but we are always looking for additional ways to help fund our services. If you have experience or interest in fundraising, we welcome your ideas and participation. Email League@lwvtucson.com or call 520-327-7652.

Membership

The Membership Committee promotes, processes, and monitors League membership.

Membership functions include: 
  • Developing and updating membership materials 

  • Promoting League membership including providing information to community organizations 

  • Staffing a table at certain League events  

  • Connecting new members to League activities according to their interests 

  • Acknowledging members 

  • Processing memberships and renewals 

  • Maintaining membership records

  • Assisting with League social activities

Social Committee 

The Social Committee serves the League by fostering fun and camaderie. Their hospitality functions include: 
  • Welcoming new League members

  • Planning online and in-person "Meet and Greet" events for League members

  • Planning and serving refreshments for the League's Voter Education Programs, which are open to the public
